简介
Sheer Pluck is based in the borough of Queens, in New York City. Many of its members learned classical guitar while in the guitar program at Queens College, under guitarist William Anderson. Sheer Pluck's version of David Loeb's *Rondo* for guitar solo, with guitar ensemble, is also available on CD Baby and its affiliates. Juan de Triana is one of the best known composers from late 15th C. Spain. Listen for the moment where A, B, C appears vertically and horizontally at the same time, toward the end of the A section, followed by a cascade of descending 16th notes. This era in Western music is unsurpassed in subtlety of expression and nuanced detail. Oya tu merced y creo is an anonymous villancico, full of double-leading-tone cadences (a.k.a. "Lydian cadences", or "Landini cadences"). In *Oya*, every appearance of the tritone is very striking, and doubly so in the double-leading tone cadences. Sheer Pluck gives a new world instrumental rendition of these villancicos, utilizing the Columbian tiple--a 12-string guitar with 4 courses--> (1) course consists of 3 unision E's (2) course consists of a B, with 2 strings doubling at the octave courses (3) and (4) also double the fundamental at the octave In Con temor bivo, the tiple plays with the octave doublings throughout, while in Oya tu merced y creo the tiple alternates between the unisons on the (1) string, and the octave-doubled strings. The tiple creates a rich, natural chorus effect. Thanks to Columbian composer Alba Potes for her tiple and her tiple expertise.
