Throughout the history of classical music, composers have celebrated their canine companions. Chopin's "Minute Waltz" was written after watching his little dog chase its tail and play. One of Edward Elgar's "Enigma Variations" was dedicated to a friend's dog. Although Elgar was a keen dog lover, his wife would not allow him to have his own. And both Mozart and Beethoven were dog lovers. Even Wagner, it's said, composed with his dog at his side, and if the dog showed displeasure at his master's musical meanderings, Wagner would reject that piece!

"Canis Familiaris" was a long time in the making - a labour of love that took nearly 6 years. It comprises five movements, each depicting aspects of our relationship with these companion animals. Fundamentally, it seeks to describe the nature of relationships - not only with dogs but, on another level, our interactions with each other.

So far, it has been my most critically acclaimed work, garnering numerous international awards.
