简介
I compose music in a genre called "Third Stream". While this term has become somewhat outdated, it is actually a fairly accurate description of my approach to composition: a fusion of the jazz or rock rhythmic impulse with a sense of classical form and direction, and I feel it's a more precise term than "Avant-Garde". My best works, including much of the music on Flute Settings, are either entirely notated (however, allowing the rhythm section to improvise) or feature strong ad lib solos which build climactically, or a combination of both. Though Flute Settings highlights my most recent flute playing, the overall goal in creating this album was to build strong compositions in a wide range of styles and techniques. My earlier works, composed and recorded when I was living in New York City, featured some of the best performers in N.Y. at the time: Elvin Jones, Richard Davis, Jimmy Owens, Pepper Adams, David Liebman and many other great musicians. These works can be heard on my CD, Fanfare 8. Since then, I have also composed much vocal music to poetry by E.E. Cummings, Emily Dickinson, John Keats, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and local St. Louis poet, Michael Castro with whom I formed a group here featuring some of St. Louis's finest musicians. My vocal music (also available on my main site) remains very much in my style of "Third Stream" For a full biography, magazine and newspaper reviews and discography, I hope you will visit my Wikipedia page, and to listen to sound samples, full length pieces and to purchase my other CDs, I hope you will visit my main website.
