The 26: A tale of musical synchronicity Once upon a time, last year, veteran british Rock/R&B singer Johnny Jay was looking for someone to contribute piano and guitar tracks to his debut solo album, "Better Man". someone who had the same musical feel, but who could bring new ideas to the mix. A mutual friend suggested the young french multi-instrumentalist Dada. 26 years and 2 countries separated the two artists, yet, whilst working in the studio, they discovered that their generational and musical differences surprisingly complemented each other perfectly. Dada adding a new, electro-pop flavour to Johnny's Old School blue-eyed R&B style, with Johnny introducing Dada to a more stripped-back, grittier, lived-in approach to music-making. This serendipitous collaboration inspired Dada and Johnny to create a new joint project of original songs showcasing their differences in musical and vocal styes in a pop format. Starting from a basic humming or strumming of a musical idea, they would get to work together in the same room, Dada constructing, orchestrating and recording the bones of the song, whilst Johnny set about writing the lyrical interpretation of the theme. Each inspiring the other, and each naturally respecting the other's take on the track. The two approaches would then be blended together, with Dada adding multi-track vocal harmonies to underline Johnny's lead vocal idea, as well as loops, guitars, keyboards, bass lines and solos. 11 tracks later, an album with a unique 2 generational neo-pop sound was born, and they called it 26A. From dark blues/gospel (You Dont Know), via ultra-light pop (The Way) to energy-filled rap (Set Me Free), every track takes 26 years of musical and cultural differences, throws them into a shaker and serves them up fresh with a little slice of life on the side.
