简介
Brothers Joe Baker and Patrick Baker were involved in music from an early age. Starting in 1977, the brothers would stage concerts from their back yard that were open to the kids in neighborhood. The shows were modeled after The Beatles and KISS, and eventually progressed to originals. Joe started writing original compositions around 1978 at the age of 7 and encouraged Pat to do the same. Around this time Joe was given his first guitar and started his first band which he titled LoveRock and as Joe and Pat grew older, formed a number of bands with each other and various kids in the neighborhood. (The brothers grew up in the Mercerville/Hamilton Township area of central New Jersey, which is located in between Trenton and Princeton). It was also at age 7 that Joe’s father gave him his first tape recorder. Joe and Pat began using this to record their songs. This progressed into adolescence and adulthood with Joe filling hundreds of cassette tapes with homemade albums he has made with the assistance of Pat including homemade album covers and liner notes for each. These tapes are all still in existence. Joe is currently converting them all to digital. During the brother’s teenage years, Joe continued to make albums and honing his craft while Pat developed into a truly gifted guitarist and musician in his own right and was busy with the role of lead guitarist and as one of the original members of the local hard-core band Mouthpiece, co-writing their first EP in the early 1990’s. In 1991, the brothers formed The Semibeings. Throughout the 90’s, The Semibeings released albums for indie labels Shimmy Disc and C/Z. In 1999 the group disbanded. The following year, Joe and Pat formed a band called JunkyGood. JunkyGood made some recordings, most notably with Andrew Weiss from Rollins Band and Ween fame. The group was experimental in nature and expanded on the psychedelic and eastern influences that the brothers began exploring in The Semibeings. The group disbanded in 2004. By 2005, Pat set up a recording studio in his Ewing, N.J. home called The Pipe. The brothers formed Bake and began work on what would become the Summer Joy EP. The brothers spent the next 4 years working on the EP as well as other tracks. At this same time Pat began work as a solo artist, spending the same 4 years recording the album Patrick Baker and Beyond in which he played all the instruments and released in 2009. Summer Joy was released in 2010 and Bake are currently working on a full length follow up album projected to be released in late 2010 or early 2011. Bake is devised to be primarily a studio band with the two brothers playing all the instruments and making albums much like they did when growing up. Just as he did with The Semibeings later albums, Pat forms the rhythm section of the band, taking on the drums and bass as well as his usual role of guitarist. Joe sings and plays guitar and on the Summer Joy EP plays a Chinese string instrument called the guzheng. The guzheng has a history dating back to 91 B.C. and Joe brought one back from a visit to China in 2004. Bakes’ music is based in rock but given the song merges such influences as punk, folk, blues, country, psychedelia, garage, new wave, eastern and Middle Eastern music.
