20 year old Pop-R&B singer-songwriter Melaku Assegued has been developing his original music since age thirteen, when he built a recording studio in his parent's basement. Born in Santa Cruz, CA to an Ethiopian-American father and Jewish-American mother, Melaku taught himself guitar at age 6 and the drums at age 11. He has earned two “California Scholar of the Arts” awards, and received notable mentions for two of his original songs in the “Song of the Year" competition. His EP is in progress, and draws influences from Motown greats like Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder and modern day artists like Akon and Chris Brown.
