简介

[EDITTED version available by request] With the anticipation of “Jus' Blowing Smoke” reaching epidemic proportions, those who don’t know who Verbal (aka Verbal KENT aka K-MOB) is might succumb to the superlatives pouring forth from the D.C., MD, VA (DMV) area where the single “Booty World” is popular. But cut through the hype and it appears to be that the SALUTrecords.com camp didn’t hold back in its desire to make this project the hottest thing in D.C. since Nike Boots. Verbal KENT—known mainly for his, critically acclaimed, work “D.C. State of Mind” (’03)—plundered deep into the sample archives for musical cues, fleshing out a new identity. “I kind of wanted to re-create myself with different samples and a variety of ‘mature/grown’ flows that, by far, makes this the best work I’ve put out. Henceforth, from Verbal KENT to Verbal to K-MOB. Like BASF, we don’t just make things, we make things better.” “Verbal” mashes the Southern pedal on songs like “Booty World” which he stitches together an 808 bass-laced track with strings and the signature southern clap, with surgical precision. Each track is perfectly placed in order from the 1st single “Coming to Get Ya A#%” where he boldly expresses his stance to competition to the last track “We Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere”, where he professes his prophetic longevity in D.C. area music. "I can't sit around and wait to get signed. The internet downloading of my music has been tremendous. I'll continue to put out music as long as there's a demand and I have the desire to do so." Verbal cruises the boulevards of his creative musical mind on this one. A lot of genres/cultures are covered, “A Player’s Dilemma” (Rock and Roll riffs) which has Verbal as a player who juggles between his girl at home and the females on the streets, “Uh, Uh, Uh” features a west coast laid back bounce track and “Dance and Unwind” a futuristic sounding track in which Verbal subtitles the ‘Ol Skool Anthem’. The enthusiasm is contagious, increasing the likelihood that music fans who don’t normally like rap might gravitate to it for "commercialized" songs such as “She’s A Ryder” and “Sky’s the Limit”. Embrace Verbal’s “Jus’ Blowing Smoke” for what it is—straight and to the point lyrical, musical expressions with grown/mature folk connotations and D.C. urban accentuations.
