简介

This album is the second album of country tunes recorded and released by W.C. Beck, following 2011's Kansawyer. Featuring the much-lauded members of The Portland Country Underground as his backing band, this album is a collection of story songs, hard-luck tales and barn burners that all mix together to show the diversity of Beck and PCU. Whether it's the down and out ballad of lost love ("Tired Horses") a rockabilly burner ("I Gotta Sing") a French cajun trip down the Mississippi to the Big Easy ("Nouvelle Orléans") or the Bakersfield-inspired "What Those People Said," Beck's songs tell of a bygone epoch in America and roots music. And the seasoned backing back The Portland Country Underground is rhythmically and melodically airtight on this record, no matter the style. "As one of the featured players in Portland Country Underground—the ballyhooed rotating ensemble of country purists who usually grace the LaurelThirst stage every Monday night—W.C. Beck represents the contemporary avenues by which classic country can move forward. Utilizing relatable songwriting, and, often, a mandolin, Beck's gritty compositions and twangy vocals hearken to outlaw country's heyday. On Quivira, Beck's brand-new LP, he's backed by PCU, who really are just one of the best ramshackle groups of rambling maestros in town. As such, the album lives and breathes in the pocket, pulsing with smart leads, crisp harp, ululating pedal steel (as found on 'Good Enough Ain't Good Enough'), and fantastic harmonies throughout." -The Portland Mercury "Abetted by the Portland Country Underground, an all-star team of LaurelThirst regulars, the album features whip-sharp playing. Beck pairs well with Sara Catherine Wheatley, whose stage-trained voice powers the “love in times of low-income” swinger 'Doctor' and on twinkling ballads like 'Good Enough Ain’t Good Enough'". -The Willamette Week
