I realized what was needed from me, but I was not able to deliver. I stared blankly at the notepad, much like any writer who was suffering from writers block would. The words from my worst critique replayed constantly in my head, "you know you will never make it." Angry, I remember I abruptly began to write. Not about anything in particular at first, but it was almost as if I were possessed by something. I specifically remember writing the words without pausing, almost as if i were simply reiterating a story about my day. "I walked to the store, bought some milk, etc" you know, basic stuff like that. I did not exit this possessed state until I was half way through the second verse. I remember I stopped abruptly. I began to read over what I wrote and I was shocked. All the syllables matched up perfectly. The rhyming scheme had depth. The similies and methaphors all made sense. I remember laughing to myself in utter disbelief. That is when I realized, the secret to every great song writer must be a little bit of luck. Even if someone has the ability to tap into their talent at any given moment, they will always be worried about reproducing a high quality product. I have never written any other song so quickly or so effortlessly as 'Life in Stereo.' It is a special song to me not only because of the feeling it gives the listener, but i feel as though it is the only song i have written where my subconscious completely took over and expressed itself flawlessly. That is when I began to do research on the human brain with one simple goal in mind, to repeat this unconscious phenomenon. I found nothing except the details of a peculiar and interesting condition called SYNESTHESIA... but that is a story for another day.
