简介
An album like this should be wrapped in gold, with shooting star accents and served on a rose bedecked saucer. This is Ying and Yang, Laurel and Hardy, spaghetti and tomato sauce, it is: everything. And never nothing. In the club cellar it is potent dynamite and by the light of day it belongs to a souled passion, in quiet moments at home. "The Gold Retrospective" is the essence of five musical experiments, extending the work of Monsieur Kadebostan on the labels FENOU and Freude am Tanzen. Kadebostan celebrates the fine hand-craftsmanship of deep house and mid-tempo electro. He performs like a surgeon at the heart of ecstasy, and for reason of his house roots he has a strange curiosity for "traditional" sounds. Old Arabic songs on harp infused beats, there italian melodrama filtered through scintillating rhythm, and over here deepest ambient techno seasoned with iconic declarations from the seventies. From that you get electronic dance music with a massive delicateness, but even more so an – affectionateness – the sonics have for each other. Kadebostan never crumbles his catalogue of sounds into so much sampling rubble, rather he furnishes appreciation and love through dynamic, thumping, garments. His work is not that of a freak, but a multifaceted and clever fellow who appreciates the White Russian street quartet as much as the deep bass-kick at 6am. Still he manages to blend the contradictions with a smattering of the finest irony. With this mixture, Kadebostan has in the last few years reached the major league of DJ's and live acts. The Gold Retrospective showcases 12 tracks that have been released on vinyl from 2007 until 2012 on a gold covered long player that is enjoyed on the dance floor as much as at home. Our travels take us from the string-abundant bows of the Fela Kuti in the opening "Entroducing" to the elegant-snapping impressions from Caracas. For those who are not believers in the Arabic sounds need only listen to the great overflowing "Mon petite soleil d'Algérie" and be flushed with joy. 01 Kadebostan - Entroducing Kadebostan (FAT 036, 2008, B1) A quasi-manifest of the artist with it's own musical identity: melancholic strokes, a little freaky and then clear beats and samples from a political address by Fela Kuti bound to a complex, clever ode to musical openness and curiosity. 02 Kadebostan - Love in Looxor (FAT045 2009, B1) With a restrained tempo and that much more vehemently pushing the compelling electronic beat hypnosis from a truly beautiful Egyptian, underlined with a proper set of violin arrangements and stretched out sonic clouds. 03 Kadebostan - Ruff Dancer (FAT 036, 2008, A1) Extremely opulent makes quite a mixture with bone-dry bass beats and a theatrically classic thump, that loans an irresistible compulsion to move. 04 Kadebostan - 5.15 am (Fenou05, 2008, A1) Coming from a nice EP called by "Grand Theater", at 5:15 am there is this: great drama, emotion and room-embracing motion for the twilight hours; a crisp electronic declaration of love of the opera as well as the deep bass-kick at 5:15 in the morning. 05 Kadebostan - The Souk (Fenou10, 2010, A1) A warm-up-the-seat-of-your-pants dance floor track from a fairy tale: strangely beautiful Arabic melodies twist in a driving, complex Oriental house beat and every few seconds there comes a new, as yet unheard sonic sequence. 06 Kadebostan - Sofia on stage (Fenou05, 2008, B2) Melancholic, disquieting, electronic crackling of the fog of the golden city of Iskar; a fine sizzle and arranged with a tenderness and complex depth of sound. 07 Kadebostan - Caracas Soul Dreamily-massive deep-house jewel from Kadebostan's debut EP. An unhasty, energetic track full of tropical heat and nighttime big-city flickering. 08 Kadebostan - Mon Petit Soleil D'Algérie Deft, forceful and seemingly unique battering ram of a house song that rips from the club walls and brings the dancers to scream: ecstatic overflow rave, coloured over with heavenly Arabic languishing harmonics and quirky underground electronic. 09 Laolu - O fantasma - Kadebostan Tigercity Remix Part 3 Extremely clean, dry sounds consort in a remix of dreamy melodies and distant full-on folklore samples. The clarinet is played by Kadebostan himself. 10 Kadebostan - Batalla en el cielo (Fenou05, 2008, B1) Another tart-melting track from Kadebostan's "Grand Theater" EP: from a Mexican melody that yearns an easy going deep droning deep-house track filled with underground energy and anxiety. 11 Kadebostan & Laolu - Salomé - Kadebostan Version (Fenou15, 2011, A1) From the collaboration with the Swiss-Nigerian DJ colleague Laolu there springs an electronic as well as electrifying version of the Salome theme: in a mellow covered base of strings bathes a longing vocal, constantly driven from dry beats and ground-level bass successions. 12 Kadebostan - Mother Cries (Bonus) A plaintive-melancholic sonic symphony, fine and unending like time stood still: with suave strings, crispy delicate rhythms and melodic cello-piano overtones.
