简介
Talented new artists flood the Internet on a daily basis, making it easy to spend hours surfing websites and listening to a few seconds of uploaded original material. But try stopping after a few seconds of newcomer Johnny Miller’s “No Ceiling” or “Sing With Me.” You won’t stop. In fact, you’ll want more. Miller is a singer/songwriter in the most traditional sense: he tells complex stories and delivers them effortlessly, putting his heart and soul into each note. To introduce Johnny Miller and his upcoming debut album, Ten Year Monster — scheduled for release on 11/12/13 — his label, Gravitas Entertainment, is taking a unique approach to promotion. Beginning on March 15, and continuing on the 15th day of every month, they’re sharing a new song and video from Ten Year Monster online. One song at a time, you’ll get to know the man behind the craft. Miller grew up in Cape May, New Jersey, a historic fishing town that comes alive during the summer tourist season. As a teenager, he and his friends would spend their days on the boardwalk; during the off-season, they would make their own fun, gathering in pickup trucks, building bonfires and playing acoustic guitars. Those adventures are referenced throughout Ten Year Monster, from the hearty good times of “No Ceiling” to the poignant message of “Is That OK.” Ten Year Monster was produced by John Allen, better known as J3, at Shorefire Studios. Miller was joined by musicians Kenny Aaronson, Brian Gabriel, Peter Cetinch and Bobby Lynch, tracking live to capture the songs they way they’re performed onstage. “Gravitas wanted it live because they feel I come across better that way,” he says. “It’s really honest and heartfelt, and whether it’s perfect or not isn’t what matters. What matters is how I emote the songs. J3 knew that and he told me before we went in, ‘The songs are there. We don’t need a lot of bells and whistles.’ I would go in and play the songs for the band. They’d write down their parts and we’d record.” Ten Year Monster is the culmination of Johnny Miller’s life experiences to date — the highs and lows, the lessons learned, and the man that he has become. “The whole record is about the struggles I’ve gone through, and the changes I’ve made and not made,” he says. “I’m really happy with the album, because from track to track there aren’t any lines that I don’t believe in. The music is honest and from the heart and it says exactly what I want it to say. You’re going to get to know me through this record. I’ve struggled with my own demons, issues and insecurities, and I have overcome through perseverance. I’m a happy person, I like to joke around and I also care a lot, but everybody struggles with life and I’m no different. At the end of the day, when people listen to this record, I hope it connects with them. I want them to know that I care about the music I play and the people I play it for. It’s been a hard, long road; I’ve seen my ten-year monster and I’ve learned to be OK with it. The decisions I made brought me here, and at this stage of the game, I couldn’t ask for more.”
