In 1999, Venerable sax maniac Jimmy Halperin and guitar virtuoso Larry Meyer, experimented w/ a time stretching style of jazz they dubbed "pan-dimensional". Since then they've developed an impeccable set and continue to impress their peers, including the legendary Les Paul. Individually these cats have played with (and for) multi platinum artists, international super stars, and royalty. Liquid Jazz have headlined east coast hot spots such as: The Dancing Goat, 21club, Birdland, Iridium, and are currently booking to support the new CD. Queens, NY, 22 July 1958. He comes from a musical family. His grandfather and mother had trained for opera, and played classical piano. He took group music lessons at 4 years old, piano at six, saxophone at nine. He studied with Lennie Tristano right after his first European tour at 17. He's always been a small jazz-combo player. He's played few big bands here and there, but it's always been trios, quartets or quintets that he's worked with throughout his life. He's played in a lot of chordless groups with rhythm sections (i.e. two tenors + rhythm, tenor + trumpet + rhythm, etc.). His influences include Art Tatum, Sal Mosca, Lennie Tristano, Charlie Parker, Warne Marsh, Bud Powell, Charlie Christian, and Lester Young. There are other minor influences. Mostly the instrumental virtuosi in any musical genre, plus great singers also, like Billie Holiday, some Ella Fitzgerald and Lena Horne. He is a 3 time recipient of the NEA jazz fellowship award. Jimmy studied with Lennie Tristano and Sal Mosca, the latter with whom he has a cd as leader/composer titled "PsalmM." He's done numerous international tours as leader and sideman have brought Jimmy around the globe, appearing on radio, film, television, print and multiple record labels. Foreign and domestic music conservatories have had Jimmy instruct master improvisation classes. Jimmy has also played with Warne Marsh, Barry Harris, Eddie Gomez, Tootie Heath, Jimmy Heath, Dominic Duval, Peck Morrison, Johnny Or, Dave Williams, Ram Ramirez, Jack Mcduff, Lee Konitz, John Engels, and many others. Jimmy has appeared in jazz festival with Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Mccoy Tyner, Stephane Grappelli, Freddie Hubbard and many others. Jimmy has a private teaching practice and has a patent pending for and original design for the saxophone. His cd Liquidity with his group "Liquid Jazz" went to ..44 on the charts in the USA and is still being distributed in Europe. He performed at the Lennie Tristano memorial concert,town hall which was released on jazz records JR-3 the label that Lennie and Charlie Parker started together. Larry has written 6 books for guitar published by cherry Lane publishing. Larry leads and co-leads numerous ensembles among them liquid jazz and raindance quartet with bassist Dominick Duval(cecil taylor). Larry performs as a soloist as well as groups in the tri-state area. Larry has opened for acts such as Foreigner,The Doors,Vanilla Fudge,Bad Company,Kevin Eubanks,Savoy Browns Blues band and Steve Howe.
