Ashly wrote the lyrics for Lowered one evening while waiting for the Cercanías train in Madrid, Spain. She was well into her third week of daily visits to a friend in the hospital and constant contact with the energies there inspired her to write something that would uplift herself. "It just came out of me. 'Looking for that space, where all things erase, in that quiet place, I am.' Then I built from there throughout the rest of the week." She often writes outside, on public transportation, observing people and herself in relation to the world. "I write to heal and encourage myself, and naturally I help others by putting it out there." There was also a meditation that she had just read about. "When you're overwhelmed from the chaos of a city, the infinite number of noises involved in keeping it all together, it helps to look for the silence between all of those sounds. There's a lot of peace to be found in those gaps."
