Mostacho Xprmnt is an original R&B/Fusion band from Brooklyn, New York. The project was founded by Costa Rican composer and drummer Andres Marin with the purpose of compiling old collaborations, but it rapidly turned into an avenue for performing new music with amazing musicians. It then became clear that the project would experiment with many different styles of music and wouldn’t be concerned with stylistic boundaries or genre tags. After working with Najwa Mahiaddin as the lead singer for a couple of years the sound took a Soul and R&B twist; but in 2015 they regrouped with Songyi Jeon taking the lead role and providing a jazzier sound. Other musicians that have participated are Dave Lowenthal, Luis D’Elias, Miguel Gallardo, Haruka Yabuno, Eitan Akman, Alejandro Zorrilla, Matt Giella, Andy Warren, Ernesto Llorens, Joe MF Wilson, Aaron Gratzmiller, Shilpa Ananth, Aleksandra Denda and many more. Although the band avoids stylistic tags, they are currently influenced by Hiatus Kaiyote, Esperanza Spalding, Snarky Puppy and others from a Neo Soul and new Jazz currents. The first self-released single “Qué Mae Más Raro” is based ona twelve-tone composition, meaning that it uses all 12 notes of the piano in a row without repeating them.
