Born in March of 2000, Anna is a scholar of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation and a two-time ASCAP award-winning composer. She started playing piano by ear when she was three and composing when she was five. She learned her first Bach piece, Invention No 1 in C Major, when she was four years old, making Bach one of her earliest musical influences. Anna recorded the first book of the Well-Tempered Clavier when she was ten years old and finished this second book at twelve. She completed the second book in eight months. Recordings were divided between six studio sessions scheduled over a two-month period in three-hour blocks. She recorded 4-6 takes for each piece, accumulating some 240 takes. She then hand picked her best takes for this album, making no further edits to preserve their authenticity. In addition, she made the artistic decision to use the sustain pedal, a practice which leads to some debate. Some artists, like Andras Schiff, do not use the sustain pedal because it is a relatively modern invention unknown to Bach. Others, like Daniel Barenboim, do use the sustain pedal. Anna prefers the sonority produced through the sustain while acknowledging the importance in clarity of line. Anna studies piano with Hung-Kuan Chen and Tema Blackstone and composition with Martin Boykan.
