简介
COLOURS EP is a re-released version of Dennis Sy's debut album entitled COLOURS that came out originally in 1998. It contains 4 original tracks either written entirely by Dennis, or in which he had written the lyrics, plus one cover song entitled "Don't Give Up On Us". Born in Manila, Philippines on January 24, Dennis moved to the US in 1994 to pursue a career as an IT professional, leaving behind a musical journey that included a solo concert at the Music Museum, a recorded track on Vicor’s first commercially-released Christian album, a Christmas jingle for Carlsberg Beer, a management contract as part of a duo called CHAPS, and various show appearances with theater performers EJ Villacorta, Jaime del Mundo, Audie Gemora, and Bernardo Bernardo. But an artist’s calling never fades into oblivion despite better intentions, as Dennis managed to keep one foot in the entertainment world in between pursuing a career as an IT professional for Fortune 500 companies. In 1995 he joined NY based Fil-Am singing group ALIBATA, completely satisfied to be part of an ensemble, and gaining an appreciation for the intricacies of vocal harmonies and arrangements under musical director Lerrick Santos. In 1996 Dennis branched into various solo performances, including a solo concert at the New York Ethical Society in Manhattan. He guested in various shows, including performances at the City Center NY and in Atlantic City. Then in 1998, he released a solo album entitled COLOURS, and followed that up with a CD launching concert at the Pace University in downtown Manhattan. From 1999-2000 he took some time off to reinvigorate his creative juices, and also to concentrate on the increasing responsibilities of his IT career. He was just about ready to say goodbye, once again, to his music, when in 2001 an invitation to perform with a band was placed on the table. With his home life and IT career pretty much on autopilot, Dennis decided to entertain the offers to sing and perform again. His rekindled musical journey allowed him to cross paths with musical director Noel Tampac, and in 2006 together with other key members, they formed Chapter2 - a pop/acoustic show band that won the Artist of the Year award at the 2006 LA MUSIC AWARDS. Dennis’ original composition REAL ME was also nominated for SONG OF THE YEAR (Triple A category) at the same event. In 2009 he worked on Stephanie Reese’s Carnegie Hall concert as the assistant technical director, adding another layer of skill set to his expanding resume in the entertainment realm as a performer, singer and songwriter. Seeking further challenges in the creative field, in 2010 Dennis spearheaded and produced the NY Handog Project 2010 - a collaborative effort with 15 local Filipino Tri-state artists in performing a re-arranged version of the song “Handog Ng Pilipino Sa Mundo”. 2 of his compositions were included in Chapter2’s debut album entitled PAGE 1, released in September 2010. In October, Chapter2 became the first Filipino band to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall. Dennis continues to expand beyond his comfort zone as a musical artist, and the future presents exciting opportunities as he looks forward to tackling the next challenge, be it a new song, a new video, a new show, or the branching into a yet undiscovered talent.
