简介
In Ashland Oregon, in December 2004, The band that would later go on to be known as Heathen Shrine was formed to play the Ashland High school battle of the bands. The original lineup of the band (which at that time was called Sasquatch) was Damon James on bass, Drai Beveridge on drums, Rob "CrustAzn" Beebe on vocals, Sky Cohen on rhythm guitar and Adam Steinbroner on lead guitar. They played one song at the battle of the bands which went over very well, so much so that they were disqualified for the crowd’s violent reaction. Soon after the battle of the bands, they received an offer to play as an opening act for local Grindcore band Blueprint for Disaster and the legendary Mastodon. After quickly putting together several more songs and changing their name to Fenris, they played the show to a packed house at MusicHead in Medford, Oregon on December 13th 2004. Another noteworthy show with this lineup (which was then known as Serpentine) was Blueprint for Disaster and Buried inside at MusicHead on March 18th 2005. The band was tired of choosing band names that were already taken, so finally Adam Steinbroner came up with Heathen Shrine. Soon thereafter, the band recorded the 3 song demo "Dethrone and Dismantle. About a month later, the band dissolved. In June 2005 Adam Steinbroner and drummer Mason "Worms" Huggins met through mutual friend Mike "Inconu" Mastrofini. They decided to keep the moniker Heathen Shrine (as names seemed to be so scarce) and immediately began to write material. They soon added John Bradley on vocals and after playing several shows with this lineup, Damon James was back on Bass. In September 2005, Heathen Shrine recorded their 8-song LP "Vespertine", They released 50 copies of the album on burnable CDs in jewel cases with the backing hand labeled and hand drawn by Adam Steinbroner, each one with a different picture. They then added Rob "CrustAzn" Beebe on second guitar for a fuller sound and played their first shows outside Jackson County In Portland and Eugene Oregon. Shortly after, John Bradley and Rob "CrustAzn" Beebe were out, slimming Heathen Shrine down to a three piece. They recorded the 3 song "Wolves of Valhalla" demo in the summer of 2006 with Mike "Inconu" Mastrofini on vocals. They played their last few shows in Ashland with Adam Steinbroner picking up vocal duties, then moved to Portland Oregon in September 2006. In Portland, the band put in many hard hours in the basement refining and rewriting their songs for a harder, faster, more brutal sound. They Played their first show as Portland residents in late summer 2007 at the now deceased GloLoca Bar. In February and March '08 they recorded their 5 song EP "Subterranean Realms of Gravitation" and has been distributing it by hand ever since. In this period Heathen Shrine played many shows with bands like Yakuza, Anal Blast, Lightning Swords of Death, Valdur, Gigan, Abysmal dawn, Misery Index and Origin. On Halloween 2008, guitarist and longtime friend of Heathen Shrine Tenaya Ward was added for a more shredding and heavy sound. He made his Debut April 1st 2009 with Heathen Shrine as direct support for Cattle Decapitation at Club Satyricon which was tremendously well received by the crowd Nowadays, Heathen Shrine is busier than ever writing and playing their scathing brand of Death Metal with a new full length album in the works and a West coast tour being planned. Adam Steinbroner quotes, "Heathen Shrine is here to stay, we all love playing metal so much that I really can't foresee any end to it. I know I'll be playing until my fingers can't move and I know I can safely say the same for the rest of the guys."
