简介
1939 is a remixed collection of recordings made in 1939 or shortly thereafter. All original recordings are the property of the Association for Cultural equity and are used with permission. Many of the vocals on this project were recorded by John and Ruby Lomax in their 1939 Southern States Recording Trip. Other material was recorded by Alan Lomax, S. C. Loop, John Wesley Work III, Lewis Jones, and Willis Laurence James. A number of recordings are the work of Charles L. Todd and Robert Sonkin and are part of American Memory’s Voices from the Dust Bowl: Migrant Worker Collection. I am deeply indebted to all these great ethnomusicologists as well as the original singers who generously allowed their voices to be recorded for posterity over 70 years ago. I am equally indebted to the Association for Cultural Equity for their help with this project. The following is a list of vocals that appear on this compilation.
