Chibi Kodama is the product of the Cullimore family. A family of 7, mom, 5 girls and dad. Created in 2013 by John as a hobby to create encouraging rock for his girls to listen to, it has morphed into a genuine expression of their family life here in 2017. What you’re seeing here is the result of a non-stop, intense year of life. Beginning with a performance at Kindiecomm in Philadelphia, and culminating in them leaving the religious commune the family had lived in for 11 years to restart their lives anew in Knoxville, TN. (Even enrolling in public school for the first time in the kid’s lives) The year has been a roller coaster of revelation, joy, tears, triumph, and ultimately, learning just how important it is to live without fear dictating your actions. Big steps… big decisions, and learning emotional health. This album, Between Main Street and Neverland, are the anthems that became the soundtrack of a year of learning to break through the walls of fear, questioning one’s beliefs no matter how frightening it may be, and searching for who we really are… a self-actualization that doesn’t end in selfishness, but learning to let love, and NOT fear, have its way. This is a message that we believe our world desperately needs these days. Inside you’ll find a sort of guided story dealing with the initial thoughts of belief and opening our eyes to see that our perspective may no be the “way things are…” The songs move through themes of being crippled by insecurities, trying to stay “safe” from ridicule and criticism, to dealing with trauma, rejection, loss of friends, utilizing mindfulness as a coping mechanism, and ultimately, learning to live in Love, rather than the harsh judgment of one’s self or others. Are these heavy themes for a kids album? Maybe. But, the real question is, “Are these themes that kids experience every day?” Yes. These are themes that families of all backgrounds go through each and every day. Sometimes, it’s nice to have a soundtrack to lead us through the thoughts.
