简介
Reggaeton, an energetic fusion of rap and reggae is quickly sweeping the nation and Boston’s own Damian “Dinky” Benitez has become the hometown protégé. Dinky refers to his music as having a twist. He says, “It’s Spanglish, with tropical sounds and a Caribbean flow. It’s almost like an updated salsa,” he says. Dinky is in the process of completing his pre album entitled Uncharted Territory. The pre album will feature five new songs with two bonus tracks. “They are mostly dance songs. It’s happy music, you can dance to,” Dinky says of his new album. While the pre album will be his first, Dinky is not a stranger to fame. As part of the group Miwe Music, his first hit, “Baila mi Reggaetona” moved to No. 2 in the Peruvian charts when he was only 16 years old. What started as a group of high school friends rhyming during their lunch break, moved Dinky to a world of shows and writing. Dinky was first showcased at Russell Auditorium in Roxbury, Massachusetts, which propelled his musical career into an unstoppable year of performances and shows ranging from Club Lito’s in Revere to other local venues like La Makina, Bahama Beach Club, and Europa's. Then, in December 2004, Dinky and Miwe Music were invited to perform on Telemundo’s The Roof. Since Dinky’s debut on Telemundo, he has been writing and developing new music for his solo projects. His Boston fan base has exploded and crowds gather around him as he makes guest appearances at Boston night clubs. Many of his songs are spun regularly at Boston based Latino nights, such as Saturday nights at Roxy's and Friday nights at Templo. “People would pull me over on the street and they would have my song on their phone or on their iPod. I was walking to the train and a car was driving by bumping my song and I didn’t even know them.” Dinky said of his growing popularity.
