简介
Dan Paul writes heartfelt ballads on piano. He's a witchy romantic living in the new Bohemia of New York--Bushwick. There he writes songs, draws drawings, creates his own special life with a host of other magickal characters and creatives. 'The Make Up', in the album's title and third album track, refers to many things--breaking up and making up, the assembled parts that create a whole, make up that a woman or drag queen would wear--but mostly it refers to creativity, making up things in your head. "It's the make up, not the markers, that make up all of man," Dan Paul sings. It's the creative individuals who originate the positive changes we see in our world, not those who simply measure themselves by status and the status quo. "It's the wake up, not the parkers, making music in our hands." It is those individuals who continue to strive for enlightenment, rather than those who seek comfort and security, who create the great works that live on forever. Step into Dan Paul's emotionally charged world, ten songs that were crafted over his first five years living in New York, having lived all his life before in Texas. The first song on The Make Up, 'Come Clean', has to do with honesty, honesty with those in one's life as well as being truthful with the self. In 'Catalyst' Dan Paul recounts a tragic event in his neighborhood that happened shortly after he had arrived in the city: Two brothers were mistaken as gay men and beaten so badly that one of them died. It was a terrible and frightening crime, but its senselessness shed light on the need for solid hate crime legislation. It was a catalyst for change. In 'A Subtle Casting', the album's final track, we find Dan Paul making magick, as well as making a case for the dreamers of the world, giving license to those who would sink into a moment and believe in the seemingly impossible. This is an album for the sensitive, romantic daydreamer in all of us--a chance to feel again.
