简介

Re-release of Plunge’s debut recording remastered at 24 bit. Falling with Grace brings together some of the strongest and most inventive players in the genre: BOB MOSES on drums, MARCUS ROJAS on tuba, AVISHAI COHN on bass, and MARK McGRAIN on trombone and alphorn. Arranged for two bass instruments and with an emphasis on percussion, the twelve engaging McGrain-penned originals groove deeply. From New Orleans second-line verve to after-hours jazz swagger, Caribbean and African beats combine with the funk and urban sound of the street to provide musical surprises around every corner. With brilliant, mysterious production from Tom Dube, “Falling wtih Grace” is both atmospheric and punchy. NPR hailed Falling with Grace “the freshest album of its type.” DownBeat awarded it four stars and called it “remarkable -- grooves as wide as a house,” and d Wired Magazine raved, “Eminently danceable, grooves so hot they stick in your head for hours.” It remained in the top 20 on the CMJ jazz charts for twelve weeks and was a finalist for Best Contemporary Jazz Recording by the National Association of Independent Record Distributors. With compositions and performance that proved accessible not only to the jazz audience but also to rock, funk, and groove audiences, Plunge crossed into a wider market shared with the likes of Medeski Martin and Wood, Charlie Hunter, and Stanton Moore.
