A musician for over 3 decades, Branan’s artistic path has been lit by sonic encounters with the sacred and powered by a sense that music can change the world. Branan fell in love with Classical Raga music 25 years ago, while a music student in Canberra and later studied sarod with Pandit Ashok Roy in Sydney. An intense artistic search led to the discovery of dhrupad and he began his apprenticeship with Padmashri Umakant and Ramakant Gundecha in 2002, making seven extended study trips to India since then. He is a passionate researcher of the sacred music traditions of the Indian sub-continent, and has a large repertoire of devotional song, including Kabir and Gurbani kirtan. His work aims to reconnect the Classical Raga tradition with its roots in sacred music and nada yoga.
