More than three decades ago , our country´s music has been highly enriched, due to the presence and constant activity of numerous and splendid chamber music ensembles with the most diverse instrumental formations. This sort of chamber music renaissance took place during the 1970´s with ensembles such as Da Capo, Castañon –Bañuelos Duet and Julio Viguereas Percussion Ensemble and later on Cuarteto Latinoamericano, Mexico City Wind Quintet, Neos Trio and in the last fifteen years such groups as Tambuco Percusion Ensemble, and Onix. Besides their refined performances , these ensembles share the will to be contemporaries of their music. Thus, their repertoire has been oriented towards modern music, the music of the incredibly diverse twentieth century and our incipient century. To these illustrious names we must add, without hesitation, that of RAGA percussion Ensamble of Mexico. It´s formed by three excellent musicians – Edwin Tovar, Ernesto Juárez and Kaoru Miyazaka (outstanding marimba performer) - , RAGA has become in short time become a focal point within artistic activity in our country. It´s members have managed to integrate a true chamber ensemble with a genuine and intelligent musical dialogue with it´s own sound and performance style. The release of their first CD is a moment of celebration, a natural result of the quality of their work. It`s important to point out that all the works recorded were especially comissioned by RAGA for this project, which clearly states their commitment with the process of commissioning, performing and recording new works written for the ensemble. Thanks to ensembles like RAGA, mexican and international composers, have great performers who stimulate our imagination, something that all of us composers recognize and truly appreciate.
