After roughly two years of doing the solo gig Shysta Smooth & Kataztrophe put the band back together so to speak. Shysta Smooth & Kataztrophe are known for their crazy vivid rhyme schemes on the mic. Shysta is also known for pulling double duty as MC and Producer for the group. Everything heard upon listening to his music, from the beats to the lyrics on the tracks are all original and self-created. When the Shysta was approached & asked to explain the essence of his gritty sound he responded, “It’s what my brain has absorbed the last 15 years. I grew up listening to all different kinds of music. The edgier content and harder core aspect of music in general has always appealed to me. Most of my influence comes from various artists such as the legendary Three 6 Mafia, Flint's own Dayton Family, SPM, N.W.A, Public Enemy, Tupac Shakur etc. I also get a lot of inspiration from certain heavy-metal rock bands such as: Judas Priest, Tesla, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Stone Temple Pilots, Journey, Alice in Chains etc. All those groups and many more have inspired most of my musical and lyrical content.” Shysta Smooth and Kataztrophe are currently promoting through any means necessary such as, free promotional cd’s, mix-tapes, live performences, flyers, social networking sites etc. They are constantly on the grind playing live shows throughout the mid-west and some southern states. In 2009 Mask Conspiracy (Shysta Smooth & Kataztrophe) managed to independently release their underground debut L.P. entitled “Beginning of the Burial” regionally. Upon listening to the record one is bombarded with violent street imagery, catchy hooks and lethal rhyme schemes. All of which laid to the tone of heavy bass-lines, crisp snares and haunting piano chords. This record was a first for the 2 and a learning experience in all.
