The Sacred and Profane is the musical creation of Kyle Rasmussen. Drawing from the psychedelic, progressive rock movement of the late 60s (The Moody Blues, King Crimson, the Velvet Underground), 70s and 80s (Pink Floyd, My Bloody Valentine), and late 90s / 2000s (Radiohead, Sigur Ros, and the Brian Jonestown Massacre), the Sacred and Profane looks to push song craft and album conceptualization beyond its normal, mainstream parameters. The name "The Sacred and Profane" symbolizes the dichotomy between two universes of music: the beautiful, moody, shoe-gazing allure of softer, sacred tones and the bone-crushing, violence of more profane tones. Blurred between these two universes is a song-writer who draws from multiple inspirations and geographies to write, produce, and perform a modern version of psychedelic rock, with a strong focus on emotional songs, meaningful lyrics, and endearing album concepts. Performing under the name The Sacred and Profane, Kyle draws on his life experiences in multiple geographies (the Bayou South, the College towns of the Northeast, and laid back venues of the West) to represent his cross-cultural musical inspirations in a singular fashion that can only be called: rock n' roll. His first album, "Effigy of Me", takes the listener through a sonic landscape of raw emotion and sound, asking what makes the soul burn (if not music)?
