简介

Birthday is the new full-length release by Denver's premier post-rock trio, The Sleepers. The album was recorded at Ravenswork Studios in Venice,California, by veteran producer Eric Ryan. About The Band: "Let's say..maybe...PJ Harvey and The Breeders get together with Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath in the desert - and Sonic Youth shows up," offers the band as a description of the music. Kathryn Ellinger, Michael Trenhaile, and Greg Johnson (Nick Ryan took over on drums in 2004) formed The Sleepers in Denver in 2001 and immediately gained local recognition for their ability to combine the best elements of Denver's music scene into a cohesive, coherent blend. Their songs may differ in feel and tempo, but they're instantly recognizable as The Sleeper's own. In 2002, the band embarked on a tour of the west coast; they were fortunate to have producer Eric Ryan attended one of the shows, which sparked the idea of recording at Ravenswork Studios in Venice, California. The result is the Sleepers' debut CD, Birthday. Quotes: Critic's Choice, Westword Sleepers By John La Briola Published: Thursday, June 16, 2005 An insomniac's dream come true, the Sleepers drift effortlessly between loosely structured pop and casually aggressive fuzz-core -- a fitting tribute to what Bill Shakespeare once referred to as "the honey-heavy dew of slumber." Gathered from the cast-off ashes of Denver's Worm Trouble, this drowsy post-rock trio of songwriter/vocalist Kat Ellinger, guitarist Michael Trenhaile (Body of Souls) and drummer Nick Ryan (who recently replaced longtime member Greg Johnson, formerly of Twice Wilted) expands the musical language of yawning landscapes to include the odd smattering of German. The band's exceptional debut full-length, Birthday, recorded in Venice, California, by RavensWork Studios producer Eric Ryan, marks the welcome return of some bona fide Front Range journeymen. Hear for yourself at a CD-release show Friday, June 17, at the 15th Street Tavern, with Orbit Service, Grease Machine (ex-Otter Pops) and DJ Darkwing (ex-White Dynamite). What better excuse to cop some z's before bedtime? The Denver Post "Eerie, emotive and eclectic, this trio crafts Sonic Youth-sounding noise rock." -Elana Ashanti Jefferson, June 17th '05
