Having picked up consistent club support over the last 24 months from the main players in house, garage and UK bass, such as DJ Zinc, My Nu Leng, Shadow Child, Toddla T and Wookie, Night Shift Sound's debut label compilation, Northern Power House Vol. 1, arrives at an interesting time both socially and politically. Given the likelihood of George Osbourne's contentious plan (failing) to better connect Northern cities via a yet-to-be-improved transport infrastructure, the Manchester-based label might just be the only entity left to make the most of such a wonderful branding opportunity, before Teresa May cuts off the North and declares Greater London it's own country. Whilst George Osbourne attempts to Keep Calm And Pretend The Northern Powerhouse Was Never Announced, label owners Mike Burgess and James Medina, PKA as HeavyFeet (Black Butter, Bingo Bass) have been rocksteady in their approach to re-appropriating just what Northern Power House is, developing their own brand of bass-heavy dance music, ensuring it returns to prominence in a timely fashion... hopefully sending the Tories running for the hills. Influenced by labels such as Butterz and Defected, Night Shift Sound has harnessed an altogether more club-rooted, harder hitting sound than the current 'tropical' and 'deep' dance music trends, opting only to release music that fits their 'strictly heavy business' policy. Northern Power House Vol. 1 is a no-holds-barred 21 track compilation, featuring exclusive originals and remixes, new vocal versions and existing catalogue favourites, made up entirely of Night Shift Sound related content, including vocal appearances from the likes of Aniff Akinola (MTA, FFRR), DRS (Metalheadz) and UK garage royalty, Fallacy.
