简介

Meri is more than just a voice in the gallows. Behind the echoes and deceptively angelic looks lie the pounding heart and rousing voice of an army. Born to folk musician parents, Meri was bought her first guitar by her father who introduced her to the rousing riffs of Nirvana, whilst her mother taught her the mastery of gentler folk finger-picking styles, and harmony. Meri penned her first song ‘Roses’ at 14 years old and soon realised she needed to learn an instrument to express the lyrics that kept pouring out of her. With the versatility and experience of playing throughout the country on both electric and acoustic guitar, as a solo artist and band member, it is no wonder that this songstress won the attention of UK Hardcore legend DJ Sy, whose remix of 'Lonely' hit No.2 in the UK Hardcore charts and earned the pair UK National BBC Radio 1 airplay. Meri is also the winner of The Norfolk Acoustic Music Competition 2006 and the 2009 Leicestershire Sunflower Songwriting Competition and opened 'The Big Session' UK Folk Festival in 2009, setting her up with a solid basis for steady home grown success. Meri Everitt is primarily a songwriter, having learnt to play guitar in order to use her songbird voice to sing the poetry she wrote with accompaniment. She started writing songs with her guitar at age 16 and never had any formal training having had folk and rock playing/musician parents who were happy to support her musical intentions and teach her any guitar techniques she wanted to know. Meri has always written prolifically with no seeming end to her creativity. Songwriting to her is as natural as eating breakfast or going to sleep at night. She has journeyed through and travelled back to many genres whilst also maintaining a strong musical identity throughout with her definitive voice and folk and rock influences. Her priority is to gain exposure for her songs ,which are more recently informed by her Buddhist practice. Not in the way you might imagine, more that she cannot help but be tinged with hope even in the darkest moments. These are often the times she writes, finding solace in writing as she learned from a young age this would be a more solid constant that relying on any one person to be there for her every fall. Meri has always been a striking and memorable solo performer, reviewers have said frequently, with a strong ability to mesmerize audiences during each set she performs. She has performed successful sets in many different situations and cities from house concerts through small bars to art and music venues and festivals. She predominantly performs her own songs, however, when she does turn her voice to covering famous hits like nirvana’s ‘About a Girl’ or Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’ for example she inevitably adds her own special something . Her performance of joy division’s ‘love will tear us apart’ at a suicide charity evening lead to some very positive feedback due to her individual take on the song and her ability to channel the song's deep emotion live on stage. Meri has formed numerous bands to support her on stage and at times to co-write. The most notable being punky/grunge/riot grrrl band ‘Flying Kangaroo Alliance’ whose single release ‘hit the wall’ on green and purple splatter vinyl was the first release for a brand new label, Punk Fox records, setting the stage for them to go on to release predominantly limited edition coloured vinyl for female fronted or all girl bands (Inc. Les Chausettes, Daddy Issues) from around the globe. Her other projects such as ‘Celestine’ with musician turned fim maker Ben Mottershead provide some solid co-written songs on her first professional album ‘Wanted’ enabled her to work with some fabulous musicians playing mainly folk and rock backing to her strong lyrics and melodies and rhythm guitar. Meri shows her vesitility in having been involved in numerous EDM releases and has also had national UK radio play when her song ‘Lonely’ was remixed to high acclaim for the EDM/hardcore lovers. There have been other successful house music follow ups such as ‘war on myself’ rejigged by worldwide DJ and producer ‘Just Her’. Meri is always involved in some kind of collaboration as more and more producers take notice of her powerful yet ethereal EDM vocals and her ability to jam lyrics and melody specifically catered to that particular project and delivery swiftly. The producers she has worked with say things like: ‘perfectly in tune’ ‘haunting’ 'I'm so excited to work with your vocals!' 'amazing harmonies'. Meri has also written songs and guitar music to specific specifications for plays and films. She is always seeking new projects with the attitude that with each one she will learn something to inform her songwriting, performance and production further, always attempting to master these arts more and more day by day. Meri has her own studio and has recorded and produced other artists' releases as well as her own. She’s currently working on her first self produced EDM tracks. Meri is most comfortable in a studio or on a stage, singing her heart out, trying to touch people’s lives with a view that when one fully experiences /embraces the darkness within such as sadness or a bad break up, only light can be next. Her songs sometimes begin with these topics, or about the beauty she sees in nature, falling in love, or aspects of society that make her angry when she sees people suffering needlessly. In most of her songs, a message of hope cannot help but become present as she ‘writes out’ and transforms the negative with her writing process. Meri has also managed and or created all the PR and social media ‘fronts/sites’, artwork, event management and tour booking that goes alongside a music career that is not backed by major funding. There’s a lot more to a lasting career in music than just writing a few (300+) songs and she is willing and able to put her hand to anything, even working the sound desk if needed! In addition, Meri made a short film ‘The Gate’ which is a psychological horror illustrating PTSD and has had some of her photography published in magazines and used by artists for promotion. Meri is a frustrated drummer and would love someday to play drums in an all girl band.
