简介
This record is a tribute, my homage to the music I grew up with. And yeah, I still call them records. I was born on the South Side of Chicago, raised by my mother and grandparents in a mostly black neighborhood. Mostly? Let’s just say I was the only white boy I can remember back then. Maybe because my father was off in Detroit writing songs for Motown (For Once in My Life, Heaven Help Us All, Touch Me in the Morning, to name a few), all I ever wanted to do was sing. Those streets of my youth were filled with music. Soul Music. It became part of my DNA. At 16, I reconnected with my Pop as he followed Motown to LA and took my sister and me with him. It was the best musical education I could have wished for -- Being in the studio alongside him, experiencing my idols up close. I hope I learned those lessons well. Every cut on this album is very personal to me, each with its own story and unique arrangement, including a few of my father’s best known songs along with some hidden treasures. A couple of these, I co-wrote with Peter Smith in the spirit of those Soul classics, looking back yet moving forward. For too long, I ran away from my first dream, but an inescapable need to do this music brought me home. This is my journey. Soul Searching
