Hello, my name is Katie Barbato and I am an independent songwriter based out of Philadelphia. I officially released The Millay Tapes on October 22, 2011 at the legendary Sigma Studios. This is an extra special album because I did not write all of these songs by myself. I had some help from the late great Pulitzer Prize winning poet Edna St. Vincent Millay. The Millay Tapes are my tribute to Edna. I fell in love with her poetry (like countless others before) when I first found a book of her poems at an antique bookstore along a seaside town in New England 5 years ago. I was truly inspired and deeply moved by her passionate writing. I contacted the Millay Society in the summer of 2010 and on October 14, 2010 I received permission to begin recording. I had crafted 12 songs set to her words of some her most famous poems. We began tracking, worked through the long winter, spring, and early summer of 2011. The songs have many moods: some are heartfelt, some somber, funny, ironic, and moving tales of lost and found love, death, nature, and of course the wild and vast sea.
