"Happy New Year" was conceived by Scott in the years before Iron Fist regrouped. He wanted to turn the idea of how New Year's resolutions can be thwarted by other people into a tongue-in-cheek song that plays up the resulting frustration. Rebel added to a the second verse and came up with the break and solo sections. Together, the band put the finishing touches on it in early December of 2015, just in time to let EVERYONE in on the party!
