简介
Marco Cinelli wants to record something that isn't been rehearsed, something that the vibe of the recording session and the mood of the musicians would color in a unique way. And that has to be neither jazz nor experimental music, but mainly pop with the sonorities of the music of today. Good songs out of elementary sketches in a very short period of time. He books two studio sessions to lay down to songs his ideas, hiring the finest musician he is been dealing with, and at the same time keeping them almost completely unaware of what they are about to play. First session is in Metslawier, Fryslan, at the Sing Sing studio, three days, five songs recorded. Featuring Bas Bouma on drums ( Sinas, Sofie Le Titre, SharqiBlues ) Ander Tijsma on bass ( Coco Jones) Anan den Boer on keys ( Tim Wes, Njam Rosie ) and Oeds Bousma on the contrabass. Thanks to the skills and the creativity of the musicians, it isn't difficult to translate in music the melodies he's got on his mind. The recording is simple and very basic, knowing that afterwards a big production is needed to achieve a worthy result. Second session is in Amsterdam at the Geuzenoord Studio ( Sabrina Starke ), one single day, two songs recorded. Featuring Maartin Helsloot ( Boris, Sinas ) on keys and Bas Bouma on drums. Despite the lack of time, and the spirit of the studio that often follows the motto " first press rec, after we will see" this last session originates the most pop songs of the album, that are also the most complex in terms of arrangement, That's How I Like/need/want it and Little Reggae Joint. The remaining three songs are recorded at home featuring Marco Cinelli on vocals playing also every instrument, shifting from different emotions but following the same method: we enumerate the a capella massive choir of "Untitled", the folk fingerpicking technique for the tune "Grey" and the gritty psychedelic funk tune "While We Cruise On". After this satisfying amount of material, he decides to deliver it all to someone who could get along with his models of sonority and who could give the record something new and original. He starts working with Johan Kooi ( Johnny Cage, The Black Atlantic ) who mixes and co-produces the entire record.
