We only have a few copies left of this original pressing from 1997. Get em while their hot. Features a deluxe booklet with lots of pictures. Matt Heckert, a founding member of the seminal Performance Art collective SURVIVAL RESEARCH LABORATORIES, creates sonic masterpieces with his MECHANICAL SOUND ORCHESTRA which features..."a variety of computer controlled mechanical sound sculptures. While his sculptures are designed primarily to produce sound, they also have an intense visual and visceral impact. In performance, Heckert's pieces create a feeling of imminent danger as they lurch into loud and unexpected motion. There is an uncanny sense that these machines are acting consciously, like some kind of exceptionally primitive form of robotic life. While these ominous aspects of Heckert's Mechanical Sound Orchestra suggest the apocalyptic tone of performance by Survival Research Laboratories (in which Heckert was a key collaborator until 1988) one can also sense in his work distorted echoes of the Utopian spirit of Modernist art and design. Heckert's spinning and gyrating circles and discs, for example, recall the kinds of abstract machinery mythologized in Ferndinand Leger's 1924 film Ballet Mechanique as well as the kinetic work of artists such a Jean Tinguely and Naum Gabo.” - Larry Rinder “It ranges the gamut from darkly forboding, outright terrifying, wage-labor factory repetitive and yet can be as soothing as a train rolling by your bedroom window at midnight in the rain” - CAKE “Move over Trent Reznor, the real industrial nightmare is under Matt Heckert’s control” -BAM
