简介
Sarah Pound is a singer-songwriter and music therapist, who plays the guitar, piano and trumpet. She will soon be releasing her second solo album of original songs, "Capacity", with her debut CD Release Concert being held in Wolfville, NS, on Nov. 6th. Her previous acoustic album, "It's About Time", was released in 2009. In her early years, Sarah fell in love with music and performing through organizing informal concerts for her family and friends. As she sang, danced and learned how to play different instruments, she would orchestrate music making with anybody who would join. All sides of Sarah's family were passionate about music and dancing, so needless to say, she was surrounded by it growing up. This must be why she doesn't remember a time when she didn't sing. She started studying piano at six, trumpet at eleven, and taught herself guitar at sixteen. Sarah remembers wanting to play the guitar primarily because she knew it would enable her to start singing and performing on her own. From an early age, she recalls always knowing that music was a necessity in life. Also passionate about dance, Sarah began with ballet and then switched to highland dancing. Connecting her with her Scottish roots, Sarah danced at a competetive level from ages seven to thirteen. With other interests manifesting, it was then that Sarah made the difficult decision to stop highland dancing to the same capacity. This shift away from competing gave Sarah new energy and offered perspective into her love of choreography that she soon-thereafter started doing with other young dancers. But not only did she love dance, she was spell-bound by theatre and acting. Being in touch with her dramatic side at a young age, Sarah knew she wanted to be on stage in the first moments she witnessed live theatre in elementary school. With thanks to extracurricular drama clubs, music and drama festivals, Sarah started getting her early experience. In the middle of high school, Sarah struggled with being diagnosed with vocal cysts and the long journey to recovery. She remembers the fears that came alongside not knowing whether she would still be able to sing after surgery. She felt as though her dreams would no longer be possible, was humbled by the vocal chords' incredible vulnerability and the risks that come with any career that so highly depends on the body. Nine silent days followed her surgery and when she started to sing and speak again, she was brought to tears by how effortlessly these new sounds came. Sarah continued to slowly warm into her voice and was relieved to find out officially that her vocal chords were healthy again. What might seem like an obvious decision, following the path she was already on, Sarah found choosing a career to be very difficult. She quickly learned that she wanted to keep studying and started by taking various forms of dance and drumming classes, followed by a short stint apprenticing a music therapist. Sarah began feeling passionate about healing the mind, body and spirit though singing and wanted to reach out to those in need, particularly helping women to find their voices. It was that summer that the composition floodgates opened and she has now written more that sixty songs. She enrolled in a music therapy degree program and noted that she particularly enjoyed her vocal training. For her, it was fulfilling to study classical voice at the university level after all she had been through. Upon finishing her final course, she started recording "It's About Time", her first album.
