There is a wonderful sweetness and diversity in this jewel of seventeen songs, presented together for the first time ever by Síle. Sung in her native tongue, some are songs she heard by the fireside as a young girl in Baile an tSléibhe, which echo her heritage and her homeplace - songs like 'An Draighneán Donn,' 'Brídín Bhéasaigh' and 'Casadh an tSúgáin', bringing the likes of Antaine Ó Domhnaill, Finín Ó Connluain and Pádhraic Ó Ciardha to mind. This collection is enriched by a store of other songs she learned after leaving home and inschool, as both teacher and student, and are sure to be affectionately received by all who call Ireland home. The beauty of this work does not lie solely in Síle's alluring voice but also in other talents that flow continuously throughout. Whether light-hearted or deeply emotional, Síle's devotion and passion is clearly felt in every love song. Whether accompanied by music or not, these traits are illustrated in every crystal clear word and phrase of songs like 'Dónall Óg' and 'Fill fill a rúin ó'. There is a grace and refinement to the arrangement of the songs, as seen in the discreet use of bass in 'Dónall Óg' and 'Eileanóir na Rún'. The long overdue presentation of her first album, and its completion in such an elegant manner, must evoke a sense of pride not only from Síle but from her husband and family, whose masterful influences are evident throughout. However, the hesitance and doubt that shadows the undertaking of such a project must recognised. This, I'm told, becomes easier over time and I wish Síle Tim many years of good fortune.
