简介
The neo-psychedelic pop outfit the Sun Sawed in 1/2 was formed in St. Louis in 1990 by bassist Ken Rose and his guitarist brother Tim; filling their roster with singer Doug Bobenhouse, keyboardist Dave Farver, guitarist Jeff Bartholic and drummer Bill Yaeger, the group debuted with the LP The Happiness and Other Short Stories, issued on the BeeHive label in 1992. Hot Feet for Monkey God followed a year later, and when the Sun Sawed in 1/2 resurfaced in 1995 with Mind Flip (produced by legendary producer, Keith Olsen (Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Santana, Grateful Dead). Mind Flip was the first release for the Sun on the Not Lame pop label. 1997's Fizzy Lift, the Sun roster included drummer Matt Martin. The album was also recorded for the Not Lame power-pop label, which also issued the 2000 follow-up, Bewilderbeest. In 2013, the band welcomed their first album since Bewilderbeest, "Elephants into Swans," the Sun's 6th full-length album, is ready. With 12 new tracks performed by the Sun and some stellar guests and written by Tim Rose, Elephants marks the first studio release since 2000's "Bewilderbeest." The rhythm tracks were recorded by Greg McRae at Boulder's Coupe studios, vocals recorded in Chicago at Atlas Studios by Matt Allison and at lead singer, Doug's house. And horns at Sawhorse in St. Louis with Jason McEntire. We mixed it at Wild Cowboys in Vienna, Austria with the amazing Florian Manchek and had the wonderful help from musicians ranging from Kip Kuepper on bass, Bob Packwood on keys, Martin Woess on piano and keys to the stellar horns of the Funky Butt Brass Band (Aaron Chandler on trombone/Adam Hucke on trumpet/ Ben Reece on sax); a big thank you to Tim Halpin for making that happen! The Sun features Tim Rose (guitars, backing vocals, songwriting), Doug Bobenhouse (lead and backing vocals), Matt Martin (drums), Ken Rose and Ken Kase (vocals). And, as always a shout out to Chris Klein who managed our band through the mid 90s. "Elephants into Swans" was produced by Tim Rose and Doug Bobenhouse.
