简介
"When You See Me," is an original Song by Spider Saloff inspired by Trayvon Martin Tragedy. Saloff’s song is a powerful message of accepting, understanding, and celebrating the differences among our fellow man if we can just learn to see each other. Joined with the voices of Jewel Tandy and Max Hornung the style crosses over from R&B to hip hop and includes an original rap by Max Hornung at the top of the song. Arranged and produced by David Bloom of the Bloom School of Jazz in Chicago, he chose two singers to add to Saloff’s vocals, representing a diverse range of age, race, and stage of life: Jewel Tancy, and Max Hornung. Cameras captured the recording of "When You See Me" at Rax Trax Chicago for posterity which featured Pat Fleming (guitar), Chris Cameron (organ), Khari Parker (drums), and Tony Brown (bass). The result of the efforts of all these musicians is a socially relevant piece of music. It is a plea for reason and tolerance, and a remembrance of a life cut short so senselessly, backed by the rare sound of real people, playing actual instruments. Other contributors to the recording include cameramen Eric and Justin Woods and engineer Rick Barns and cover art by Reynaldo Certain. The tune is released with an accompanying video, with one mission in mind: fostering a rational and long-overdue conversation in this country about race, stereotypes, and how to move forward in a positive way. As Spider states, “It’s not a song about where we are, it’s where we will be.” Spider Saloff up until this song has been mostly known as a jazz vocalist, actress, songwriter and playwright. She has nine nationally released CDs and four singles. These recording include jazz standards as well as many of Saloff’s original works. This recording is a stylistic cross-over for her as both songwriter and performer.
