简介
Edith Piaf has become synonymous with French Cabaret of the 1940s & 50s and remains France’s most popular singer. Piaf’s life was the stuff of legend, from her dramatic rise from Paris street urchin to star of international renown. Her life, however, was anything but ‘La Vie en Rose'. She suffered insecurity, self-abasement, anger, obsessive passion and a constant quest to be loved and accepted - a maelstrom which took its toll upon her mental stability as the pressures of her fame increased. Towards the end of her life and as a result of several car crashes, Piaf turned to drugs to find comfort and solace, never able to believe that she was indeed loved by countless thousands of fans the world over - reflected in the size of her funeral in 1963 when so many lined the streets of Paris to bid her farewell. Eve Loiseau’s passion for Piaf developed at a young age, around the dining table in South East France. Coming from a French family of singers, long summer meals were often rounded off with French chansons. Piaf is inimitable, but Eve’s lustrous French tone captures the essence of the Piaf performance in this tribute to the ‘Little Sparrow’. Edward has written for and performed in Kneehigh Theatre's hit show 'Brief Encounter which has appeared on the London West End and at Studio 54 on Broadway, New York. Edward has been playing accordion since the age of 8, and now works full time as a composer and arranger for TV and theater. Reviews; ‘Absolutely wonderful arrangements! And as for that Piaf singer - amazing. She is better than the real thing, and I don't say that lightly.’ John Hardy, 5 times BAFTA award winning composer ‘world-class and delivers Piaf's songs with authority’ Gilbert Biberian, composer 'a beautiful voice - a Piaf better than Mireille Mathieu!' Redbridge Institute ‘a heart rending show, emulating not only the style but the spirit of this tragic singer’s life’ Anna Saunders, Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum 'Utterly enchanting' Mayor of Evesham ‘Apart from losing a foot in height, it’s impossible to imagine Eve Loiseau – or anyone – improving upon her miraculous recreation of the great French singer Edith Piaf. Not that Loiseau is in the impersonation business, the trademark little black dress aside. Her triumph was catching the huge spirit of The Little Sparrow … The songs tell atmospheric, sometimes risqué, stories and Loiseau was totally fired by their passion, humour and irresistible choruses. Most of all she found the key to that visceral, earth shaking voice. Autumn Leaves, If You Love Me, Mon Dieu and other Piaf essentials all received magical interpretations.’ Citizen & Echo
