简介
“The Psalms have not sounded fresher or more urgent since the day each of them was first sung, more than two millennia ago. This is contemporary religious songwriting of lasting value." (Ellen F. Davis, Amos Ragan Kearns Professor of Bible and Practical Theology, Duke Divinity School) “Rich, engaging new acoustic and bluegrass arrangements… the most sophisticated and moving music of [Pettee’s} career.” (Independent Weekly) Now in their 10th year, Charles Pettee & FolkPsalm are thrilled to announce the release of their fourth collection of Old Testament Psalms set to original Americana and Bluegrass music this fall, 2014! “A Dove on Distant Oaks: Psalms for the Journey” features nine new Psalms songs, plus a musical setting for the first chapter of the Book of Lamentations, all performed with the band’s trademark vocals and instrumental prowess. FolkPsalm is founding member of Flying Fish recording artist The Shady Grove Band , Charles Pettee; renowned bassist Robbie Link; founding member of The Steep Canyon Rangers, Elizabeth Bahnson; the Old Ceremony’s Mark Simonsen; The Shady Grove Band’s John Boulding; with the amazing singing of Brittany Whitmire, Wendy Taz Chadburn, and Brian Bolton. The new collection also features outstanding guest performances by drummer Rob Ladd, pianist Robert Griffin, Ed Butler (percussion), Nathan Golub (pedal steel), Mandolin Orange’s Andrew Marlin (clawhammer banjo), and Ben Folds Five bassist Robert Sledge! The collection’s title comes from a song title mentioned in the superscription for Psalm 56, namely, “A Dove on Far-off Terebrinths” (New Revised Standard Version), which evokes the mix of longing and hope so characteristic of the Psalter, and so characteristic of the journey of faith. As humankind faces the unprecedented challenges of this 21st century, FolkPsalm maintains that the old words of the Hebrew poets and prophets have as much strength and relevance today as at any time before. Charles Pettee & FolkPsalm hope that these new musical settings highlight the faith, hope, and dedication to justice exemplified in these ancient prayers, inviting all to a place at the table of God’s “steady love”!
