"The Flight of the Zamarrito" is an experimental project, a concept and a work in progress by Ecuadorian visual artist Andrea Boada. The project was inspired by the recordings made for the album "Maborosi" by Willem Hendrikse and Yuka Kawabe. An international group of musicians traveled through Ecuador from March 19 till April 10, 2013, immersing themselves in the local culture and music. They met with resident artists and musicians and performed at a number of locations, producing a fusion of their own musical backgrounds with Ecuadorian and Latin music. The participant artists were Willem Hendrikse (Curacao), Kok de Koning (The Netherlands), Yuka Kawabe (Japan), Taro Terahara (Japan) and Andrea Boada (Ecuador). In Quito, Ecuador they were joined by Marcus Bressler (Sweden) and Saed Zabana (Ecuador). Audio recordings were made during the journey and mixed and mastered in the Netherlands afterwards, resulting in this collection of beautiful and unique global fusion songs, combining Latin American music, Japanese and Indian flavors and elements of rock and jazz The line-up on this album is: Willem Hendrikse (Musical Director): electric and acoustic guitars, bajo sexto, bass guitar, keyboards, harmony vocals, lead vocal on La Venada, Cumbia Pa' Oriente, El Toro Barroso, Deep In The Heart Of Texas, El Torito.
