For its fourth release Back To The Future nudge even closer to the Chicago sound. Melodic and jazzy with tonnes of jack, the 5 tracks available on this bumper package meet Chi town on their own terms. Lee Jarvis puts forward a straight ahead house track that chugs satisfyingly and injects a rigid urgency that will snap the floor into step. A real no frills monster, this is house with an almost clinical ability to move the floor but with enough character to really light it up. Greenskeeper’s Brian Heath goes for a darker, warehouse take on the Chicago sound, highly kinetic, the track has a narcotic edge that pulses with plastic precision. The most upbeat of the package, this is one to really work the floor with, giving dancers some tough funk with a tripped out edge. Deploying his trademark energetic drums, Dudley Strangeways propels the track forward while letting melodic chords wind through this classy delivery. A subtle Derrick Carter-esque bass line gives the track some classic wiggle while it pulls a few tricks out of its sleeve, horns and vocals are all dropped smoothly into the mix as this unfolds and builds. Michael Mclardy turns in an accomplished rework of stuttering, fidgeting house. Leading up a few blind alleys before eventually finding its way with a powerful bassline, the track’s unconventional structure sees it fit nicely into the package as an alternative weapon for DJs looking to test the floor. Chris Kracks looks to the chug and stylishly expands the sax work to add a sultry late night feel to the track. Delicately twisting the vox and sax, the combination has a restrained and gentle funk that will lend itself to warming up the floor. Combining five takes on the Chicago sound makes this package a real land mark in the Back To The Future catalogue, with a mature focus that never slips from the floor.
