Si Emi Ilu is the debut album by Irish percussion outfit "Cachimbo". The recording is based on traditional Cuban and Brazilian drumming forms with other influences being introduced into this highly energetic mix . The bands percussive sound is complimented by mandolin, guitar, bass, piano, saxophone, trumpet and trombone. The drums however play a leading role throughout the cd. The Journey begins in Cuba and takes us on to Brazil , while stopping off in Ireland in between. Traditional rhythms and songs are mixed together in a unique approach, while the melodies of ancient Orisha songs are played on the different melodic instruments. Overall a very enjoyable mix of Drumming traditions with Cachimbo's own unique stamp !
