'Early Morning High', 'Alison' and 'Ode to a Yes-Man' are a few of the Calm's originals that have garnered attention and rave reviews from the Montreal music community and the band is now excited to present their album “Are You On My Side” on Canadian Indie label Hyperbole Music. The Calm's style has often been compared to the sound of the 1970s singer-songwriter movement, but things have progressively spiced up with the coming of a dynamite rythm section composed of Matt Legroulx on bass and Yves 'Bam-Bam' Dumontier on drums. RIGHT ABOUT NOW (COMEAU) An attempt at summing up the band’s state of affairs and its colourful characters… past and present. It’s become a bit of an anthem for us. 2. YOU AND I (DIABO) Simply describes the emotional journey Max and I have been on. It fills me with such happiness knowing we’re in this together. 3. BOYFRIEND (COMEAU) I heard of this guy who lost his soul in some movie project that never happened. He just disappeared for months, grew his hair and beard and put on about 60-70 pounds. This is the story of his comeback. 4. SONGS OF YOU (COMEAU) A past lover walked back into my life when I least expected it and this is the song that came out of it. To you, my ellusive friend… you know who you are. 5. YOU’LL BE HAPPY TO KNOW (COMEAU) Wrote this song in April of 2000 and it has followed Rachel and I everywhere we’ve gone since. It was the first original we ever performed for a live audience. 6. EARLY MORNING HIGH (COMEAU) A dead-end job, past failures and extra weight can make you want to escape to the darker, higher side of things… 7. ALISON (COMEAU) Listening to Dylan’s Nashville Skyline and Ryan Adams’ work with the Cardinals, this song came in one short sitting at one of my favourite spots in Montreal, Shäika Café. Really did hope you’d stay awhile, Alison… 8. ODE TO A YES-MAN (COMEAU) Honey Martin’s on a Rob Lutes Monday Night, 2006. My sister in law inspired the first line of this song… it got me thinking about my life and where things were going as I listened to Rob’s songs. 9. PICK ME UP SLOWLY (OLIVE) * I’ll always remember recording the demo to this gorgeous song with Derek fingerpicking away, Rachel improvising some beautiful harmonies and my eyes welling up as I sang the words.. 10. NIGHT TRAIN (DIABO/DIABO) This song was the first collaboration for my boyfriend Joe and I. I never want to stop singing this one! 11. ARE YOU ON MY SIDE? (COMEAU) Started out as a question I felt the need to ask a certain ex-guitarist. In the end, it’s really just about the nights on that stage and the people that make it all worthwhile…
