ZiiZii Records push forward this October with Zee & Eli’s brilliant ‘There’s A Stranger In My Bed’ EP, backed with remixes from Ardaland, Lee Webster and Gog. This release follows ZiiZii’s outstanding debut, which garnered support from many of our current climates hottest acts such as Bubba, Cera Alba, Waifs & Strays, Robert James and Death On The Balcony. Zee & Eli are rapidly becoming known for their infectious house meet disco grooves that employ analogue warmth and an evocative nature through their experimental approach to production. The original mix of ‘Dance To My Beat’ opens the release, capturing the essence of nu-disco with simple weighty kicks, claps and hats that punch through in the mix, whilst an amalgamation of vocal chops meander around them. Dirty Bird artist Ardalan’s mix of ‘Dance To My Beat’ follows, picking up the pace slightly with raw shuffling percussion, a dubby synth line and earth-shattering sub-bass rolls. Electric Piano chords are introduced adding an organic feel to the predominantly electronic based elements creating an enthralling adaptation from the Iranian producer. Mexican Erick Suarez aka Gog delivers another remix of ‘Dance To My Beat’ employing a gritty electronic bass, a tension building arp-line and cleverly processed vocals cuts and strings. To tail off the remixes rising British producer Lee Webster applies house tactics to his reshape, with wildly pitching Rhodes, smooth ride cymbals and heavily delayed vocal chops that stimulate the movement, while a sine-wave bass hook drives the track along. ‘Meat Licker’ closes the release, a hypnotic slice of slo-mo Disco that tightly blends rock-solid drums, a cosseting bass-line and hi-strings to wonderful effect. Truly capturing the contemporary sound of todays house / disco crossover, Zee & Eli clearly have a knack for scoping out a small collection of elements that will run in conjunction with each other, forming solidarity in sound. Martin Augustin, best known for his works on Petz Recordings, Catz N Dogz imprint, offers up a remix of ‘Meat Licker’. Incorporating a trippy edginess, the mix ebbs & flows with tides of dark ethereal synthesizers, that deviate throughout the composition, while the use of retro drum machine sounds such as a cowbell and woodblocks add a vintage feel to the cut.
