Origins of this song are to some degree unknown; it may pre-date the civil war but also refers to a murder committed in 1899. In the present version, a version of the traditional lyrics has been retained but the melody, chord structure, and form are original. Bill Freed and T. Sharon, vocals. Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child. The origins of this song are also unknown, but date to the era of slavery in the U.S. There are several interpretations, but in general the lyrics refer to uprooting or separation of a child from their parents, either in a literal or metaphorical sense. T. Sharon, vocals. St. James Infirmary was made famous by Louis Armstrong's recording in 1928; but the song is much older and dates back to at least the 1700's. The present version is related to Louis Armstrong's version, but we have again allowed it to evolve, using fourths voicings in the chords, and a latin rhythm. Bill Freed and T. Sharon, vocals. Guess What Chicken Butt was recorded live in Baltimore in 2012, at a reception. Special thanks to an unknown child in the audience who says “Guess What Chicken Butt” at just the right moment, which was picked up clearly by the recorder. The remaining tracks are really throwaways, maybe there’s something interesting to someone on there….except, the final track, which is original and provided for anyone to use for any purpose. I’m willing to give permission to anyone who would like to use it for any legal purpose, such as writing lyrics or an alternate melody.
