简介

FULL SERVICE'S "RECESS" DRAWS EVERYBODY OUT TO THE PLAYGROUND Do they give awards for album cover concepts? If so, Austin’s shirtless groove-rockers Full Service better start penning their acceptance speech. In the words of one enthusiastic fan who took part in the recent photo shoot at Austin's Dawson Elementary School: "Where do ya'll come up with this s***?" The cover concept for the band’s upcoming album Recess (out September 8) represents the band’s diverse fan base and musical style. The cover depicts an all-ages recess, imagining what it’d be like to still have that time-honored school-yard tradition in our daily lives. What if we all bailed on work in the middle of the day, met at the playground and took a 45-minute break? You know Full Service would be there. And there they are: Hoag battling for a loose ball, Bonesaw in the middle of a 10k run, Smell and Twink juggling the soccer ball. But look who else is hangin’ around: a mother with her kids, two awkward mopers in flip-flops, booty-liscious babes sparring on the grass, the people-who-wear-all-black hiding out by the swings, the stoners skulking by the tree in back, the skaters flippin’ ollies on the blacktop, the jocks battling underneath the backboard. They’re all there, sharing the same turf but keeping to themselves: the Goths don’t go near the jocks and the moms steer way clear of the stoners. But wait! Flip to the back cover. Full Service is performing one of its patented "takeovers," bringing their music directly to the people. And all those different cliques stand behind them, unified by the sounds of a band that always seems (before they even play a note) to appeal to a surprisingly diverse group of listeners. (Is that a baby flashing the "rock-on" sign?) That’s the power of Full Service’s music. You can hear that same contagious, generous spirit throughout the songs of Recess, in the colorful fusion of moods and the breadth of its inventive lyrics. There are stories about a surfing hero (“In a Rescue”), a heart-breaking one-night smooch with a girl from San Francisco (“Sully’s Wedding”), lost tribes of the South American rainforest (“Yanamo”), a pregnant mother (“Ramona”), and the "gentrification" of the band's South Congress neighborhood despite the lingering presence of prostitutes and drugs (“Alpine”). Did you just hear a solo on a metal trash-can lid? Was that a steel-drum ensemble at the end of the album? And did those falsetto harmonies really come out of the bearded scallywag they call Hoag? Finally you realize: This is not just another "genre" band with a "target audience.” Like the great bands they admire, Full Service has claimed the freedom to do whatever it wants. The band has no "genre" because it has turned itself into one, and its audience has become everyone on the playground. With plans to tour the Texas college circuit this fall, and a bubbling of interest from industry spooks, it's looking like that their playground is about to get a whole lot bigger. For more information contact: Tim Kepner (512) 659-1764 tim@fullservicemusic.com www.fullservicemusic.com About The Band Full Service is two brothers (Hoag on drums and vox and Bonesaw on guitar and vox) and two pizza delivery drivers (bassist Twinky-P and percussionist Smellman). Contrary to popular belief, their nicknames existed before the band was formed. After Hoag graduated from Yale in 2003, he moved to Austin to live with Bonesaw (who had graduated from Amherst College in 2000 and moved to Austin two years later) and launch their music career. They solidified the line-up in late 2004 and over the next 21 months they released four albums and completed three national "TourSaws" (one on the West Coast, two on the East Coast). Their charming "duded-out" persona and their creative promotional hijinks ("takeovers" outside radio stations, "banner-runs" down Austin’s famous 6th Street before shows, "listening booths" at Barton Springs), have helped them build a strong grassroots following in Texas' Weirdest city. When people throw parties, they invite Full Service to play. And their unique lingo (“Saw,” “Bo Ding,” etc.) has caught on at high schools and colleges around town. They have performed at all of Austin's premier clubs and during many of its festivals. (Flamingo Cantina, Stubb's, Antone's, KLBJ Local Licks Live, KVRX Local Live, ME Television, Austin Public Access Television, during SXSW, Austin Reggae Festival, The Pecan St. Festival, Texas Rock Fest). In addition, they have sponsorship agreements with Austin's own Sweet Leaf Tea and a surfboard/clothing line company from San Diego called "The Walker Project." Recess was mixed by 4 different producers: Stuart Sullivan (previous credits include platinum albums by Sublime and the Meat Puppets, and producer of the band's last CD, Sawngs), John Millican (Beer Belly Studios), James Hook (renowned Houston producer of such bands as Lonestar Pornstar), and Morgan Betz (a Philadelphia-based producer / manager of g25 Productions specializing in dub and electronic music). Why? Because everybody wanted to work on it! Recess will be available for purchase in Austin at Waterloo Records and Cheapo Discs and online at www.iTunes.com, www.cdbaby.com and the band’s website www.fullservicemusic.com. Band Members Hoagman – drums / vox (Philadelphia, PA) Bonesaw – guitar / vox (Philadelphia, PA) Twinky-P – bass (Miami, FL) Smell – percussion (Austin, TX)
