Quality Cinema, 19-year-old producer John Shaughnessy from East Lansing, Michigan, sees his first label release with his „Slowdancing With My Subconscious“ EP. Stuff that eerie airs a lot of dream power. So untamed. 1. R & R The drum pattern: very simple. The guitar: synthesized to a smile. The voice: thinking about this and that. „R & R“ is the apt opener to a set of songs spreading out the melancholy of a cone loaded with masses of bullets of vanilla ice, slowly melting in a hot summer sun. Drugs and past relationships summing up to that very „C`mon!“ kind of coolness. 2. Fleeting Haven`t heard handclaps for some while. At least that kind of handclaps, forming an immersive landscape to stage the drama: By means of „Fleeting“, Quality Cinema is telling the story of leaving home to unknown terrain. And Shaughnessy is just great in singing the stone-washed, yet ever-new song young people experience. Letting cosy bass guitars happen and G-Funk keyboards taking the lead, „Fleeting“ finalises itself as a massif of great expectations. 3. Gleaming It`s the track you will know by its afterglow. Just when „Gleaming“ has come to an end, it stands up like an ultra marathoner after his first breakdown in the midst of death valley. Pure bliss! What comes after three minutes of modern pop prose made out of soul voice samplings and starlike pulsating synths is... two minutes freestyling on modern pop prose. Content according to its singer: wasting time. Effect along the listener: Let me do just what I’ve been doing at this very moment. For the whole day. 4. Slowdance Waltzing the beat. „Slowdance“ forms the coda to an EP that shatters the pack of emotions into fractals of pure form. A voice that seems speaking in a very far distance appears as close. Very close. The harmonies sound distracting and comforting at the same time. Being hold together by a line of happiness-laden keys, „Slowdance“ is the anthem. To whom? An anthem to the party people in the state of single-minded contemplation.
