Nick Bliss’ music swirls and morphs. Electronic and organic sounds melt together and churn in a deep blue, a brooding soundscape that evokes the warped hip hop/electronica production of James Blake, the somber lyricism of Elliott Smith and the raw spunk of Vampire Weekend. Nick Bliss is the new project of San Francisco-based percussionist/songwriter Nick Woodbury. Woodbury’s background as a modern classical music or “new music” percussionist is especially audible in his manipulation of space, timbre, and the strong rhythmic drive of his music. Nick Bliss’ singles features two original tracks. The song “Melt” sets sweet vocal melodies to a slow-burning synth soundscape. “The Sun,” an intimate display of Bliss’ lyricism, is set over an airy indie-trap beat finally climaxing into a fiery guitar solo.
