Dangerously eclectic: nothing better describes the sound of Flâneur Daguerre 音符漫遊者, the young jazz quintet from Taipei, Taiwan. Here you've got a combination of forces that can't be duplicated in any other group: a bassist and a drummer from Taiwan, a saxophonist from the States, a pianist from Belgium and an accordionist from France, along with their often overlapping but sometimes distant musical subtleties. The name "Flâneur Daguerre" suggests a penchant for cultural philosophy vis-à-vis Walter Benjamin, whose flâneur wanders the streets ruminating on the "real" city before his eyes. Their music takes you down the winding boulevard of jazz and contemporary improvising, from swing to noise to folk music from the Balkans and Asia, touching down on electro-acoustic and wild circus music along the way in a cacophonous, psychedelic "constellation" of sound.
